Interviewing Manatha Young

Why did you choose to become a motivational speaker and individual and small business development coach?

From 2006 – 2012 my life had been an emotional roller-coaster. I would have never thought that I would be in a zone of frustration, anxiety, anger, resentment, and brokenness because of the imbalance that was created as a result of my work outside of the home.

It became so frustrating to have my children attend daycare, be watched by other family members while I exchange my hours in Corporate America for a few dollars. I would come home zapped of energy to charged-up and ready-to-go children who were thirsty for my attention.

Day after day at about 4:00 PM I would psych myself up and picture the smiling faces of my children. This gave me joy, fuel, and the second wind to make it through the evenings. Once I filled their mommy tanks with my undivided attention, prepared their meal, gave them a bath, read a bed time story, and settled them in for bed I found myself with many restless nights met by anxiety attacks that felt like my heart literally was going to jump out of my chest.

Stress after a while can take its toll if not handled. This way of living was consuming me by affecting my overall health and wellbeing. I had had enough. It was literally breaking my heart.

I became tired of working in that cell (cubicle) and taking orders from people who were insensitive to the need for work-life balance. I got tired of spending more time at work than at home. It had become my prison and I wanted to break free. This was not the life I wanted to live or the legacy I had wished to leave behind for my daughters.

Something had to change soon. The change needed to start within me.  I had to search deep within myself to uncover and discover the gifts that were lying dormant. Gifts that were placed on the shelves of my soul locked away in the attic of my brain that needed to be dusted off, shined up, and released for a greater purpose. I had to change my mindset. I could no longer see the cup as half empty but half full. I could no longer look at things as being impossible. I had to see them as being possible through the eyes of faith.

If you were wondering what separates me from some other motivational speakers and coaches it would be my faith in God. It is the same faith that pushes and motivates me to do the same for others “The things that are impossible with men are made possible with God (Luke 18:27 KJV).”

I always knew that God had a plan for my life.  I was tapping the surface doing things small, I had to shift my thinking “small” to believing that “BIG” is possible. I had to stop settling for less than God’s best for me.

From a very early age God was at work in me through the gift of teaching, ministering, and motivating my peers, young and old. It has always brought joy and fulfillment to speak hope into the lives of others, to encourage, to be their cheerleader, and to push them into their destiny. I could do this all day long effortlessly.

For Fun, what is the one word that would best describe you? Why?

I would have to say “inspiration”. It is just in my bones to inspire. I was placed here for the purpose of being an inspiration to others. Life has taught me and is still teaching me a lot about myself and my faith. In one day you can experience the best life changing experience ever and also experience the worst thing ever in a few moments or hours apart, but the key is to maintain your faith and hope knowing that all things good or bad are working together for your good.

In a season of my life I lost all of my material possessions it seemed went up in flames (house, cars, money, etc.). From that experience I was able to exchanged my ashes for beauty. God gave me a new start. In a season of loss I had miscarried my first child in a horrible accident that fractured bones, lacerated, my liver and ruptured my spleen. God blesses me with three beautiful girls two of which are twins. Talk about a triple blessing. I received the oil of joy in exchange for my times of mourning.  In the season of my life when I was heavy laden with the burden of finances, hardship, family struggles, and corporate America I received the garment of praise in exchange for my times of heaviness. Read Isaiah 61 when you get time. It pretty much sums everything up.

God has kept me for such a time as this to inspire others. I am grateful to have been one of the few chosen.

Who does your audience/clients consist of?

-Women between the ages of 21 and 45  who need a motivational boost, encouragement, mentoring, and some guidance along the way as it relates to their goals and fulfilling their purpose in life. I become their bridge to those resources needed to assist then in every way while being their motivator and coach from start to finish.

-Small Business owners who have me to facilitate Leadership and Motivational workshops and seminars for their teams.

How are you different from other “Coaches”?

What separates me from other coaches is that I work exclusively with women who are in pursuit of fulfilling their dreams by living out what they were called to do.  I motivate them to live a fruitful life now with a “no excuses” approach. Secondly, and most importantly would be my faith in God. It’s the foundation that  everything I do is built on. He provides the sustaining power I need to be effective and intentional in motivating others in both life and business.

What type of personality do you work best with and what is expected of me?

I’m motivated by a personality, a vessel, and instrument that is open to guidance, willing to make changes, and ready to move forward in faith. One who is optimistic, teachable, and flexible. That really isn’t asking for much.

What type of person is this program NOT going to work?

I’m very selective in whom I am willing to work with choosing to (gently) turn away people who aren’t suited for my program and won’t get the results for which they would have signed up for.

I won’t work with people who are lazy, whiners, or the chronic skeptic, as well as individuals who consistently make excuses for not getting their assignments done or challenging every aspect of the program. If you are one of these people, I would have to gently and respectfully discourage you from participating in a program that you’re not suited for.
